Azienda Agraria Sperimentale Stuard is an experimental farm situated in Parma and born to the time and for willing of Maria Luigia, wife of Napoleon and then Dukess of Parma. Stuard had to support the University and the Agrarian School

At the beginning of years ' 80, after a long period of inactivity, Stuard became to operate in research and field experimentation. In 1989 the company changed its name from Podere Stuard to the most modern Azienda Stuard and, finally, it was transformed in a special Company named Azienda Agraria Sperimentale Stuard, with action of the Provincial Council n.21189 of 12^th December 1993

According to the statutory norms, it has like main scopes to contribute to the development of the research, the experimentation and the spreading in the agriculture and to attend to the agrarian instruction.

Being a business enterprise, it develops its activity on effectiveness criteria, efficiency and economization and has the obligation of the balancing budgetary. The company has its headquarters in S.Pancrazio, near Parma and integrates annually the own property (about 20 hectares) renting other land and reaching approximately 40 hectares lead. Thanks to recent provincial funding, the Company has acquired new equipments to guarantee greater autonomy, better efficiency and wider potentiality of development.

Every year the company leads 70-80 agrarian tests on 20-25 species, for a total of approximately 3000 parcels. The tests are required by private and Public agencies. The activity is carried out on the main important crops cultivated in the territory: processing tomato, onions, grains and fodder crops.

These crops have particularly characterized the company, also outside  the national borders, according to the most important and current thematics: the quality and the safety of the agricultural and food products

The great experience has been realized regard mainly the comparison between variety, the techniques of fertilization, the crop rotation , the integrated pest management , the protection and the balance of nutrients in the soils, the organic cultivation.

The spreading of these activities happens by the publication on specialized reviews, the specific pamphlet writing, the preparation of guided visits to the crop variety tests, the coordination of projects about technical assistance, the participation to transmissions on local TV and the collaboration with the national agricultural magazines .

The company is enrolled in a special list to operate according to the regional Law 28/98 (LINK) and is the centre of the ASA (A association among experimental Companies and Laboratories) .

Other activities:

• Support to the didactics of agrarian students

• Distribution of scholarships. Annually Stuard has accommodated the summery experiences school-job and has assisted graduating in Agrarian Sciences in their training

• Organization of  guided visits and formative experiences according with teachers of various Institutes have been planned in the last years.
